HOT JOBS OF THE WEEK
Position Servo Hydraulic Test Engineer 9261BR
Position Description
The purpose of this job is to provide professional service as a fully competent test engineer within a formal engineering process or a major project. Performs routine and less complex engineering tasks that support the mission of the unit, department and/or VTNA. Serves in a resource or support capacity for more complex assignments.
· Serves as full-performance test engineer in one or two responsibility areas with limited responsibility requiring ingenuity or originality.
· Performs design, testing/validation and/or development projects within area of assignment: Emphasis is placed on accuracy; accountability/ownership; adherence to formal internal and external standards, procedures and processes; and accurate, acceptable documentation and report writing.
Department: (Those noted as specific to the department assigned.)
· Perform measurements on and/or administer tests of components or systems using established processes and methodologies.
· Utilize personal computers and other instrumentation as defined by assignment to process and analyze data and communicate results of laboratory activities.
· Document results in technical report format.
· Apply experimental methodology in order to acquire acceleration, force, displacement, or strain data to support analysis and testing of heavy truck componentry. Such activities can occur in the laboratory, in the field, and on the Volvo Accelerated Endurance Test Track
· Analyze acceleration, force, and displacement or strain data relative to relevant standard or specification e.g. VTNA durability demand, VTNA Dept. 18423 ISO processes, FMVSS or others. In the case of a measurement/analysis activity this requires signal processing that can include, but is not limited to, amplitude analysis, level crossing spectra, and PSDs and results in drawn conclusions. In the case of rig test development the signal processing will result in a signal that can drive a test rig. Specify force controlled fatigue tests or displacement controlled vibration environment simulation rig tests and load history that is correlated to a heavy truck service environment. This includes selecting actuators and controllers appropriate for the job as well as design or specification of fixturing.
· Coordinate fabrication and calibration of custom transducers from established designs as directed.
· Keep design engineering aware of the progress of the activity from both technical and timing perspective. Design engineers should also take part in any significant decisions.
· Demonstrated understanding of laboratory procedures combined with a willingness to develop required competencies.
· Ability to use instrumentation.
· Ability to conform to departmental processes and established methodologies.
· Application of Fatigue Damage concepts.
· Application of accelerometers, strain gages, load cells, string potentiometers.
· Preparation and interpretation of engineering diagrams employed for the preceding instrumentation.
· Understanding of structures for experimental test rigs.
· Operation of servo-hydraulic controllers
· BS Degree(Masters Degree preferred) in Engineering with, generally, experience equivalent to 3 or more years of progressive automotive experience, OR a minimum of 9 years of applicable progressive automotive experience.
· Experience in a laboratory environment or relevant design experience
· Attention to Detail: Monitoring adherence to standards and actively checking for accuracy of data received or generated before passing it on.
· Communication: Listening effectively, transmitting information accurately and understandably, and actively seeking feedback non-defensively.
· Dependability/Reliability: Following through on commitments, producing timely work to required -- or higher -- standards, pitching in to get the job done.
· Flexibility: Performing a wide range of tasks, responding to changes in direction and priorities, and accepting new challenges, responsibilities, and assignments.
· Ownership/Accountability: Taking the lead in getting the job done and accepting responsibility for personal actions, costs, and results.
· Teamwork: Building cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve group goals and outcomes.
