Wednesday, January 30, 2008

I currently recruit for our Remote Operations Services group (ROS).

The Remote Operations Service (ROS) group within Cisco provides remote management of enterprise customer networks. Our focus is helping customers monitor and manage their cutting edge technologies such as Unified Communications, Security and TelePresence, i.e. voice routers & switches, LAN Switches, firewalls, IPS, Cisco Unified CallManager, Cisco Unity voicemail and carrier links."

We drive growth and adoption of Cisco Advanced & Emerging Technologies through providing day two operating service to reduce customer risk of deployment and enabling partners to provide day two operations services also."

We typically look for candidates with experience in a Network Operations Center or a Technical Assistance Center. We love to see certifications such as CCNA or CCNP, along with technical skills equivalent to CCIE level, outstanding customer skills, and a very strong desire to learn and develop technically. Strong working knowledge in Security, Routing, Switching and/or IP Telephony is definitely a plus.Whether you’re searching for a position with Cisco or another company, here are some things to keep in mind when searching for a new job.

Be prepared and more prepared. Have an answering machine or voicemail with a professional greeting. Have an up-to-date resume – even if you’re not currently looking for work. You never know when you’ll hear of an opportunity you just can’t pass up – and you’ll need to act quickly. Have references ready.Use search engines, if you don’t already – let the job postings come to you.Use your network – this can be a valuable tool as many jobs aren’t advertised.

Use the “offline” approach connecting with friends, former employers, peers, teachers, professors, etc. to ask for referrals. Everyone usually knows someone who can help. When you interview, use this opportunity to find out as much as you can about your fit with the culture of company to which you are applying.

I ran across your blog from a comment entry on a GroupStudy employment page and wanted to connect with you. I am pursuing a technical internship for this summer and Cisco is a the top of my list. About four months ago I did a brief mentorship with a gentlemen in the Sales Engineering department of Cisco through a protégé program and ever since I have been working hard to make my dream career at Cisco a reality. I plan on applying for the ASE program when I graduate and taking every step I can before then to best situate myself as a candidate.

I am a Junior at Michigan Technological University studying computer network administration with one year left and am looking for a network related summer internship. I have my CCNA, A+, MCP and very strong academic scores. In the past four years I have accumulated some terrific experience working for an IT consulting company, IT support for and international circuit board manufacturer, and IT support for the world's largest research-based pharmaceutical company. I also have excellent communication and project management skills.

I would love to spend the summer working for a company that I would then join full time in a year when I graduate. I understand that you probably get these emails all the time as a recruiter, but I would be incredibly pleased if you could pass this along to a hiring department or at least pass along some advice as next steps for me in my career journey. I would love to pass along a copy of my resume to anyone interested as well.

Thank you.
