September 21, 2009 - Big event for the Triad Poetry Meetup. The Greensboro Public Library is sponsoring this Open Mic 7 PM (come in the Library and make an immediate right into the corridor of meeting rooms) Greensboro Central Library, Church Street (downtown) This is a free event! Come out and enjoy, refreshments will be served.
(Attire-casual) Please bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to Greensboro Urban Ministries as a part of Poetry with a Purpose. September 23, 2009 - BPW (Business Professional Women) - Join this delightful group of women at the Moose Cafe located at the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market off of Sandy Ridge Road at 6PM-8:30pm. This will be a night of networking, information gathering on jobs with the TSA/Airport, as well as learning about a Hidden History in the Piedmont Triad with Alice E. Sink (mentions of Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, and O'Henry to name a few).

September 24, 2009 - The Greensboro Children's Museum will have a special groundbreaking ceremony for its new Edible Schoolyard on Thursday at 4pm. Alice Walters, renowned chef, author and Slow Food activist, will serve as a special guest at the ceremony. The Edible Schoolyard at the Museum, scheduled to open in the spring of 2010, will feature an outdoor gardening classroom, teaching kitchens, organic vegetables, herbs and fruits and edible flowers.


September 24, 2009 - Cold Stone Creamery® invites ice cream lovers to experience the joy of ice cream at a nostalgic event that promises wholesome family entertainment, fun activities and lots of ice cream.

September 25, 2009 – 6pm-7pm Ten Thousand Villages Drum Circle invites you to join Mark Rabinovitz in the Drum Circle. He will lead a drum circle for anyone and everyone who wants to participate. All ages and levels of experience welcome. Bring your own drum, or use one of theirs for Free.

September 27, 2009 – Action Greensboro Sundays in the Park - Center City Park will host “Sundays in the Park” - September’s Sunday in the Park will feature hands-on fun from the Greensboro Children’s Museum as well as music by Greensboro’s Community Choirs. Musical performances will be provided by three of Greensboro’s Community Choirs – the American Express Employees Gospel Choir, the Golden Triad Chorus of Sweet Adelines International and the Triad Pride Men’s Chorus. September 30, 2008-September 30, 2009 - Pink in the park is a free Breast Cancer Awareness Event that will be held at Center City Park in downtown Greensboro. This event will educate those who attend about women's health issues with a focus on breast health issues. There will be radiologists, physicians, and breast cancer survivors available to answer questions. At the event there will be a fashion show, free chair massages, music and much more.

Welcome back to "Interesting Things Happening In The GSO!"

In my efforts to share knowledge, social networking tips, and good news I have been blessed to meet tons of people!

For those of you who are currently unemployed here are a few tips that I hope will help you:

1. If you have been volunteering at your church, or in outside organizations; create a volunteer section on your resume listing your duties and responsibilities.

2. On your resume most companies want it in paragraph format instead of bullet format, it uploads to a resume tracking system easier if there are no text boxes, or bullets.

3. In your objective, if you put one at all, be sure and include what YOU will bring to the company as well as what you are looking for.

4. Linkedin, Plaxo, Facebook are all great social sites however, building a strong network in your local community is paramount.

5. The formula for getting any job will include 25% required skills, 50% Attitude and 25% who you know.
